Lyme Regis Has inspired many authors throughout the years.

She was lost from the moment she saw him.

The wonderful John Fowles who lived in Lyme Regis, wrote many books including

The Magus and The Collector but for Lyme Regis, he is most remebered for the love story that is The French Lieutenant's Woman. This was filmed in and around Lyme in 1981.

Jane Austen was so inspired by Lyme Regis when she holidayed here in 1804, Persuasion, published posthumously, was partly set here.

So inspired was Beatrix Potter was by her visit to Lyme she created The Tale of Little Pig Robinson whilst staying here. There are pictures of Little Pig in Middle Mill in the book, the view which you will discover if you decide to walk to Uplyme along the river.

J. R. R. Tolkien visited Lyme Regis many times with his brother & later with his family. He may have taken in the scenery of Lyme and translated it into some of his works.

Lyme Regis is truly a wonderful place, as Jane Austen wrote in Persuasion
